My Rooftop Garden

It was the May of 2019. I had been newly promoted to class X in April. The summer vacations were due by a week or two then. The watermelon season was at its peak. I like the red juicy fruit. Though I live in India, yet I am fond of summer. I am especially fond of the seasonal fruits. Every other day, a watermelon would be bought.

At that time an idea struck me. What if, I don’t throw away the small black seeds, but plant them. E!rlier, our roof had a garden. But, during the construction of the 1st floor, many of our plants died. So, my grandma and me set up to once again rejuvenate our garden!

I collected almost every seed that I came across while eating watermelon. Then, we planted them in earthen pots. In the month of June when my summer vacations were about to end, we harvested our crop! Only two plants bore fruit, while the rest seven shriveled away. But that was enough. The hand grenade sized watermelons were really sweet.
