The followers of Hinduism often perform grand rituals to please the Gods and Goddesses and earn their blessings. Such rituals are performed at a particular time of the Lunar calendar. Similarly, today is one of the Pujas (as these rituals are called) of Goddess Saraswati. She is the Goddess of learning, text, speech, and art. This day marks the end of Winter and beginning of Spring.
On this day, this ritual is practiced in schools, educational institutions, tuitions, and homes. Students offer flowers to the Goddess and seek blessings from Goddess Saraswati in the form of grades and success. It is forbidden to study on this day. The toddlers who are to learn writing, are taught so by the priests appointed by the elders in front of the idol of Goddess Saraswati.
The most important thing we should learn from Goddess Saraswati is that she being a woman is yet the Goddess of learning and art. She inspires us to spread and support the education of girl child. This proves ancient Vedas and Puranas were in favor of girl child education. Thus, we understand that though Hinduism is a religion ancient by age; but very modern in its philosophy and thoughts.
